PalmaThe driver of the TIB bus that hit a lamppost in Valldemossa this Monday, which ended up falling on a group of people and caused the death of a 36-year-old Syrian tourist, has tested negative for alcohol and drug tests.
The tests are part of the proceedings carried out so far by the agents of the Transit group of the Civil Guard, who have taken over the investigation of the accident. The agents have also taken statements from several witnesses to the events, including the partner of the tourist who died.
The bus was maneuvering to leave the stop
The accident occurred this Monday around 3:40 PM, when the TIB intercity bus was maneuvering to leave the Valldemossa stop after dropping off passengers. During the maneuver, the vehicle hit a lamppost, which ended up falling on several people who were in the area.
A 36-year-old Syrian tourist suffered injuries incompatible with life and died at the scene. His partner, a woman about 30 years old, had to be attended by health services after suffering an anxiety attack.
Another woman, 42 years old and a resident of Mallorca, suffered a less serious thoracic trauma and was transferred by ambulance to the Juaneda clinic. The bus driver also received medical assistance after suffering a panic attack as a result of the accident. The Civil Guard's investigation will now have to determine the exact circumstances of the maneuver and how the impact with the lamppost occurred. The proceedings remain open.
