Trains return to August schedule starting Monday
The frequencies currently in effect will remain in effect until Sunday, August 31.
PalmMallorca Railway Services (SFM) is resuming its scheduled timetable for August starting this Monday and continuing until the end of the month, as planned, after 12 days of reduced frequencies due to disruptions resulting from the renovation works on the overpass on Carrer del Greco, near Verge de Lluc station, which are affecting Verge de Lluc station.
The schedule in effect starting Monday will remain in effect until Sunday, August 31, after which regular service programming will resume starting Monday, September 1, according to a statement from the Regional Ministry of Housing, Territory and Mobility.
Thus, starting this Monday, frequencies will be increased compared to the last two weeks, when frequencies had to be reduced due to the works, and the weekend schedule has been applied on weekdays with a reinforcement of three additional trains.
This year, SFM has begun the necessary renovation of the Carrer del Greco overpass to replace it with a new structure that will address the bridge's deterioration problems. The most critical phase took place in August, which coincides with the period of lowest demand, when a slight reduction in service frequency is applied to minimize inconvenience to train users.
This year is the second consecutive year that SFM has limited its summer schedule to the month of August, unlike previous years when the service was also reduced in the second half of July. The works to remodel the Carrer del Greco overpass mean that trains must travel on a single track—instead of the usual two—between the Son Fuster and Virgen de Lluc stations in both directions, affecting traffic flow across the entire network.
Starting this Monday, the 18th, and until Sunday, August 31st, all traffic and stops at stations on this section will be on track 1, while this month they had been on track 2. Initially, it was necessary to travel on a single track on a longer section, between Son Fuster and Son Fuster.
Thus, from this Monday and the rest of August, all departures and arrivals will be from the same platform at the Son Fuster, Son Cladera/el Viver and Virgen de Lluc stations.
During this period, fewer stations will be affected than initially, given that in recent weeks they also affected the Puente de Inca, Puente de Inca Nou and Marratxí industrial estates. The works have also meant speed limits on traffic and have forced other modifications to last year's summer timetable for operational reasons.
