Two people investigated for animal cruelty after finding two dead horses and another in critical condition in Maó
The Seprona also located a horse in critical condition and the corpse of a decomposing sheep after the warning of several neighbors
PalmaThe Civil Guard is investigating a 27-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man as alleged perpetrators of an animal cruelty offense after locating two dead horses, a third horse in very poor condition, and the carcass of a sheep on a rural property in Maó.
According to the Armed Institute, the investigation began following a tip-off from several neighbors, who alerted them to the presence of a horse lying on the ground and another in very precarious conditions on a farm located on the Camí de Cavalls, between El Grau and Favàritx, in a possible situation of severe abandonment. Agents from the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) traveled to the site on July 3 and confirmed the veracity of the facts. During the inspection, in addition to the horse that had been reported, they located a second dead horse and the carcass of a sheep in an advanced state of decomposition.
Given the situation, the Civil Guard requested the intervention of the veterinary services of the Consell insular de Menorca to attend to the only horse that remained alive and to carry out an assessment of the dead animals. After the initial actions, taking statements, and investigation management, the agents identified and investigated the two people responsible for the care of the animals as alleged perpetrators of an animal cruelty offense.
