The National Police have arrested a woman in her mid-40s for allegedly attempting to murder her husband by poisoning him with a high dose of benzodiazepines in Palma. The suspect, who appeared before a Palma court on Thursday, is accused of attempted murder, sources close to the investigation confirmed to Europa Press. The incident dates back to mid-January, when the man became ill after consuming a drink that left him disoriented and caused adverse effects. He managed to call an ambulance and was treated by emergency medical personnel. After spending a few days in the hospital under medical supervision, his condition improved and he was discharged. He then filed a complaint at a National Police station, and officers from the Family and Women's Assistance Unit (UFAM) opened an investigation to determine whether he had been poisoned. Police determined that the victim's wife, taking advantage of a moment of distraction, had slipped a high dose of benzodiazepines—an anti-anxiety drug—into his drink. Investigators located and arrested the woman, who has been brought before a judge as the alleged perpetrator of attempted murder. She has been released on bail.
The duty judge has ordered the provisional release of the woman accused of attempting to murder her husband. As a precautionary measure, the magistrate has imposed a restraining order against her, prohibiting her from contacting the victim.
