A 63-year-old woman dies drowned during the storm in Felanitx
The victim, of advanced age, would have slipped while walking down the street and would have drowned due to the heavy rain
PalmaA 63-year-old woman has died this Wednesday after drowning on a public street in Felanitx during the episode of heavy rain and storms that is affecting several municipalities in Mallorca. The incident took place around 3 p.m. on Bellpuig street.
According to SAMU 061 and municipal sources, emergency services received several calls alerting that a woman had been found lying on the ground in cardiorespiratory arrest. Several witnesses performed the first cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers until the arrival of 061 health workers and a local doctor, who continued the efforts. Ultimately, however, they could do nothing to save her life and confirmed her death.
The initial hypotheses of the Civil Guard suggest that the woman may have slipped or tripped while walking down the street. Municipal sources explained that the victim, a resident of Felanitx, was heading to get her car, which she had parked on the public street, to go to work.
The woman was walking in the vicinity of Bellpuig street when, for reasons still under investigation, she fell to the ground and was dragged by a torrent of water. The heavy rain ended up causing her to drown.
The Civil Guard has opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the event. Agents from the Judicial Police team of Manacor traveled to the scene to collect evidence. The Felanitx Local Police also intervened in the operation.
The storm has left numerous incidents in Mallorca, mainly due to flooding and fallen trees. As of 4 p.m., the 112 emergency service had recorded 100 incidents on the island, during an episode that was accompanied by heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts.
Suspension of events in Cas Concos
The City Council of Felanitx has expressed its condolences to the woman's family. The mayor, Catalina Soler, has been informed of the events and has interrupted her trip to Madrid, where she was spending the day, to return to the municipality.
The City Council has also decided to suspend the Cas Concos festival events scheduled for this Wednesday, both as a sign of mourning for the death of the resident and as a precaution due to the adverse weather conditions.
