A worker dies at the Tirme plant

PalmaA worker died this Tuesday at the Tirme facilities, as reported by the CCOO union, which has requested that the circumstances of the incident be investigated, after high levels of carbon monoxide were detected. This is an employee from the night shift of the Ilunion company who, according to the information provided by the union organization, was found lifeless at 9:00 PM.

During the intervention, emergency services, including ambulances and firefighters, detected high levels of carbon monoxide in the pre-selection plant area, which appeared to reach 100 ppm (parts per million), therefore, above the established limit of 50 ppm. As a precautionary measure, the pre-selection plant has been closed and, as indicated by those in charge, will remain so until the levels return to adequate values.

However, sources from Tirme explain that this Wednesday they checked the carbon monoxide measurements, which registered zero. The company considers that the measurements taken by the firefighters at the time were overestimated, because "there were positive interferences". "This happens when the equipment measures parameters that are not what it should really measure and gives higher values than it should", they added.

According to the measurements from the waste treatment company, there were no high CO values. They also point out that, at the time of the accident, there were other people working with the victim. Tirme has regretted the accident, but assures that what CCOO claims is "totally incorrect". "We have to deny it 100%", they state.

On the other hand, sources close to the investigation indicate that the worker's death would have been natural, due to cardiorespiratory arrest. This line of inquiry is yet to be confirmed.

Union sources have asked to avoid "banal" assessments and have insisted on the need to obtain certainties about how and why the accident occurred, to avoid any kind of speculation that does not contribute to clarifying the facts.
