Palma airport will exceed capacity more than half of the days in August, according to Eurocontrol

PalmaPalma Airport will exceed its capacity for 18 days this August, meaning more than half the month, according to a report by Eurocontrol. The airport of the Balearic capital is the only Spanish airport on the list, compiled by the intergovernmental organization responsible for air traffic management in Europe, which anticipates mismatches between demand and capacity throughout both August and September.

Between August 3 and 31, Son Sant Joan Airport will exceed capacity 18 times. On 10 occasions, this will be for more than two consecutive hours, and on the remaining 8, for only two hours. In September, between the 1st and 27th, Palma Airport's capacity will be exceeded on at least 8 occasions, 3 for more than two consecutive hours and 5 for two hours.

The capacity of Palma Airport, according to the report, is set at approximately 74 flights per hour, 33 of which are arrivals and 40 are departures.

On the list, although some with worse forecasts, are also the airports of Athens, Corfu, Heraklion, Kos, and Chania, in Greece; Sabiha Gökçen in Istanbul (Turkey), and Gatwick, in London.
