The Atlantida Mallorca Film Fest will bring together Bardem, Sorogoyen and Gael García Bernal in Palma

The sixteenth edition of the festival will be from July 24 to August 2 with eight absolute premieres in Spain, among which are 'Mother Mary', by David Lowery and 'In the grey zone', by Guy Ritchie

PalmaThe sixteenth edition of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest, which will take place from July 24 to August 2 in Mallorca, will bring together more than 300 guests and will program 165 titles, half of them absolute premieres in Spain, with the presence of figures such as Javier Bardem, Rodrigo Sorogoyen, Gael Garcia Bernal, Fernando Trueba, David Lowery and Victoria Luengo.

The festival will distinguish the French composer Alexandre Desplat, the Mexican actor Gael García Bernal and the Danish actress Trine Dyrnholm with the Masters of Cinema award. In addition, the Illa de Cinema award will recognize the Mallorcan Rafael Ruiz, known for painting the posters of Palma cinemas for decades.

The Mallorcan production Forastera, by Lucía Alenyar, will open the event, while El ser querido, by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, will be the closing film. The official section will include 14 feature films in competition and 8 absolute premieres in Spain. The program will be completed with the sections Atlàntida Premiere, Trends, Arts, Politics, Talent Balear, Classics and a cycle dedicated to the Greek filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos.

Among the main novelties are the Spanish premieres of international productions such as Mother Mary, by David Lowery; En la zona gris, by Guy Ritchie; Memoria de chica, directed by Judith Godrèche; and La batalla de Gaulle, as well as documentaries dedicated to figures such as Salman Rushdie, Annie Ernaux and Marianne Faithfull.

The Talent Balear section will exhibit, in addition to Forastera, the new works by Miguel Eek and Marga Melià, along with various premieres and short film programs.

The festival will also pay tribute to Fernando Trueba with the screening of Mientras el cuerpo aguante and will celebrate anniversaries of titles such as Trainspotting, Yo and Y tu mamá también.
