MajorDocs 2025 explores the power of sound with Ben Rivers as guest of honor

The competition welcomes filmmakers and sound designers from Europe, Africa, and America

PalmMajorDocs, the Major Documentary Film Festival of Mallorca, presented the full program for its seventh edition this Monday. The festival will take place from November 25th to 29th in Palma, with sound as its central theme. Renowned British filmmaker Ben Rivers will be the festival's guest of honor. Festival director Miguel Eek emphasized that this edition invites viewers to pause and listen amidst the noise of the contemporary world. According to the press release, MajorDocs explores how sound can narrate what images do not show and give form to the invisible. Rivers, a leading figure in European avant-garde cinema, will open the festival with a screening of his film. The sky trembles and the world is afraid and the two eyes are not brothers and will give a masterclass about his creative process. Sound designer Philippe Ciompi will also participate, offering a masterclass and a sound performance during the opening ceremony.

The Official Feature Film Section will feature eight films from countries such as Slovakia, Cuba, Italy, Ukraine, and Senegal, including three national premieres. Simultaneously, the Official Balearic Short Film Section will showcase six works mentored by the festival's monitoring program and evaluated by a jury composed of director Constanza Amengual, filmmaker Xavi Herrero, and producer Joan Bover.

MajorDocs will also offer professional and educational activities, such as the MayorDocs Pitchwhere five filmmakers will present their non-fiction projects to international experts, and MayorDocs EducaThis year, the program will expand its reach by 70%, reaching more than 1,400 schoolchildren with screenings and meetings with directors.
