More than 1,500 people recreate in Santa Ponça the landing of King En Jaume

Santa PonçaSanta Ponça returned yesterday to the year 1229 with the recreation of the landing of King James, one of the central events of the King James Festivals. More than 1,500 participants, grouped into 22 groups, 13 Christian and 9 Moorish, participated in a day that turned different points of the town into the stage for the clashes between the two sides.

The reenactment featured Mateo García Bennàssar, who played King James, and Óscar Blanco Domingo, in the role of the Moorish king Abu-Yahya.

The day began with the arrival of King James and his troops at the Santa Ponça Yacht Club area. From there, the reenactment moved to the Landing Cross, where one of the first clashes between Christians and Moors took place.

The battle continued afterwards at Caló d'en Pellicer, before reaching the most anticipated moment of the day, the final combat on the beach of Santa Ponça.

The performance was part of the King James Festival program, which this year commemorates the 797th anniversary of the landing of the troops of James I in Mallorca. The celebrations have included parades, giant figure gatherings, cultural activities, and other events related to the historical reenactment over the last few days.

Yesterday's event brought together participants, residents, and visitors at different points in Santa Ponça and once again positioned the reenactment of the landing as one of the most prominent acts of the Calvià festivities.
