Sterlin, Rita Payés, and Evgeny Grinko: artists exploring new musical landscapes
From a classic revival to music that draws the air: three concerts to stop time at SonsDeNit
PalmThe final stretch of July at SonsDeNit invites us to three special nights, spread across Mallorca and Menorca, with performances that share a deep sensitivity, a spirit of authenticity, and a commitment to live performances as a space for emotion and truth.
Wednesday, July 23,Sterling Plays CohenThe festival closes with a closing concert at Son Mas Castle in Andratx. It will be the last opportunity to relive a show that has already performed in Muro and Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, and which has transformed Leonard Cohen's work into its own intense and moving soundscape. Adela Peraita, Paco Torres, and Steve Withers unravel the performance.Songs of Love and Hatefrom a contemporary and radically personal perspective: with Catalan adaptations, exquisite atmospheres, and a female voice that transforms the legacy of the Canadian bard into a new and essential experience. On Thursday the 24th, Rita Payés arrives at the Teatro Principal in Maó withFrom the Road to the Road, her third album. A delicate and mature work that invites us on a journey through genres such as jazz, bolero, Brazilian music, and singer-songwriter. Accompanied by her "musical tribe"—her mother Elisabeth Roma, Pol Batlle, Horacio Fumero, and Juan Berbín—Payés unfolds a warm and intimate soundscape, where every silence speaks as much as a note. An evening that promises to be a reunion with the essence, a celebration of love, roots, and the beauty of simplicity.
Finally, on Sunday the 27th, the Russian pianist and composerEvgeny Grinkowill make his Mallorcan debut with a concert at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de las Islas Baleares. Known for pieces such as 'Valse' and 'Jane Maryam', and often compared to Einaudi or Jóhann Jóhannsson, Grinko will offer a subtle and powerful listening experience. Accompanied by Iana Chekina (cello) and Pavel Mackevitch (violin and viola), he will presentWinter Moonlight, their new album, recorded in Istanbul, where each piece seems to be born from a memory, an image, or a moment that melts between the still light and the melody.
And the SonsDeNit journey continues in August. The festival offers more concerts that combine established careers and new creative horizons. Among the notable names: Maria del Mar Bonet, who revisits her legendaryAt the Olympia; local talents Marcel Cranc, Joan Martorell, Joan Miquel Oliver, and Miquel Serra; Midnight Walkers, with their vibrant and grounded instrumental approach; and Mr. Sánchez, a London-born project that sings in Spanish and eschews any labels.
