These will be the first awards for art critics and curators in the Balearic Islands.

Exhibition projects curated and carried out during 2025 may be presented in both public and private spaces.

ARA Balears

PalmThe Association of Art Critics and Curators of the Balearic Islands (ACCAIB), the Institute of Balearic Studies (IEB), and the Consell de Mallorca have presented the first edition of the ACCAIB 2025 Balearic Curatorship Award and the 2025 Critics Award. These awards were created with the aim of "strengthening" and "reinforcing" the Balearic Islands as a whole.

With this aim, the aim is to annually recognize a curatorial project from the Balearic Islands and the work of a professional critic from all over Spain. In addition, the rules and general call for entries for this year have also been publicly announced.

For this first edition, exhibition projects curated and carried out during 2025 in both public and private spaces may be submitted. Proposals may be submitted by individual professionals from the Balearic Islands, members of the ACCAIB, or public or private cultural entities from the Balearic Islands.

Deadline open until January 11, 2026

The deadline for submitting projects is January 11, 2026, and the jury will be composed of Magdalena Aguiló, Bea Escudero, Sofía Moisés, Montse Torras, and Jackie Herbst.

The winning curatorial project must be an "innovative" proposal that rigorously develops a contemporary conceptual discourse based on any of the current artistic disciplines. The quality of the resolution, assembly, and adaptation to the exhibition space, as well as any parallel programs linked to the exhibition, will also be assessed.

La Misericordia Cultural Center

The winning project of the ACCAIB Curatorial Award will be granted a space at the Centro Cultural la Misericordia to develop and exhibit a project at the end of 2026, and the winner of the 2025 Critics' Award will receive an honorary award and be invited to the awards ceremony.

It has also been announced that the presentation ceremony for the ACCAIB Curatorial Award and the 2025 Critics' Award will take place in a public ceremony in the first quarter of 2026 in the auditorium of the Miró Mallorca Foundation, with the presence of the nominees, winners, and representatives of the sector.

In parallel, a roundtable discussion on topics related to curatorial practice will be held at Es Baluard Museu, with the participation of leading professionals. Programming details will be announced later this year, 2025.

Es Baluard and the Fundació Miró

These awards are supported by the Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art and the Miró Mallorca Foundation. The presentation in the Es Baluard auditorium was attended by the Vice President of the Consell de Mallorca, Antònia Roca; the Director of the IEB, Llorenç Perelló; the Director of the Es Baluard Museum, David Barro; the President of the ACCAIB, Magdalena Aguilóç; the Vice President of the ACCAIB, Sofia Moisés; and the Secretary.
