Education cancels the first weekly assignment to temporary teachers: "People are making smoke"

The Ministry of Education has cancelled the allocation of temporary positions in the first regular weekly substitution process on three occasions this Monday, according to ARA Baleares through SIAU, who has stated that nothing like this has ever happened. "They have cancelled more than 800 positions (858 to be precise)," said Secretary General Joan Crespí. "They have awarded positions to teachers who barely had any points, and to others who did not. They made colossal mistakes, such as granting resignations to people who had not resigned. We have received many calls, and people are fuming," he added. "I find it hard to remember anything like this ever happening," said Miquel Àngel Santos of Alternativa. Educació attributed the cancellation of the process to a "computer error." The new allocation will be made public "shortly," he said, initially. Educació has awarded the contract again at 17.08, but has subsequently withdrawn the list of contracts again.awardsA new grant was submitted at 6:14 p.m., and the final grant arrived at 6:30 p.m.

Before then, however, the interim staff's discontent has reached such a point that some have created WhatsApp stickers, such as the official emblem of the "Ministry of Education and Anxiety." It's worth remembering that the replacement process is used to fill vacancies left by career civil servants on leave, maternity leave, unexpected resignations, etc.

The Regional Ministry addressed those affected to explain the situation. "The Directorate General for Teaching Personnel and State-subsidized Schools informs you that the allocation of teacher substitutions made before receiving this email is invalidated. The final allocation corresponding to the first substitution process, scheduled for September 1, 2025, will soon be made and made public. If you are awarded a position, you will receive a new email informing you that it has been filled," it stated in an email sent to the temporary staff after the first cancellation of the list. Between both procedures, 2,408 of the 2,464 places offered in schools in the Balearic Islands have been filled. If all the allocation processes carried out during the month of July are considered, the total number rises to 4,064 places awarded out of a total of 4,127.5, representing 98.5% coverage.

Despite the very high rate of vacancy coverage, the process has not been without controversy. For example, priority has been given to temporary teachers who had vacancies, allowing teachers with few points to be preempted by others who may have hundreds. On August 29, the affected temporary teachers gathered in front of the Consulate of Mar to denounce the situation.
