A temporary teacher criticizes Education for awarding contracts: "I'm ready to go to the police."
In September 2024, Alba Borrasca learned her fate at 3:00 a.m. and this year she was given a place and suddenly it was taken away.

PalmAt the beginning of September 2024, the Ministry of Education published its summer teacher awards for temporary teachers in the early hours of the morning. A year later (this August), temporary teachers with fewer points were passed over by others with more, but who had not been removed from any vacancy, something that has caused discontent among those affected. This Monday, in the first regular substitution procedure (covering absences, leaves of absence, etc.), the Ministry published up to four versions of the awarded positions due to a "computer error," and on Tuesday, the urgent procedure was also postponed from the scheduled time. Alba Borrasca has experienced all of the situations described. "I'm about to go to the police and report the Ministry. I think if I took it to court, I would win," she explains. On Mondays, before 5:00 PM, she had secured a position at the Mitjà de Mar Primary School, close to home, a position that made it easier for her to balance her family life. Hours later, the Regional Ministry removed her and now she has no position and no clear future. The affected woman addressed the Regional Ministry through Instagram in a message in which she expressed her displeasure: "You are proud of your work, but I would be ashamed," she told them, among other ideas.
Her ordeal as an interim began on September 3, 2024, during the summer process. "They notified me at 3:00 a.m. that I had to be at La Coma at 9:00 a.m. But I didn't see the mail at 3:00 a.m., but in the morning," he explains. It should be remembered that, because the positions were assigned at dawn, the Ministry authorized the teachers to return a day later, on September 4. Those displaced to other islands had until Friday the 6th, a period (two days) in which they had to find housing, a hotel, or one.
A year later, affected again
In the summer of 2025, Borrasca participated again in the recruitment process, which was held again in July, following the chaos of the previous year when it was organized at the end of August, right in the middle of the academic year. It did not secure a position, but criticized the unions for the fact that, according to the unions, the Director General of Teaching Staff, Joana Maria Cabrer, signed the recruitment resolution before the end of the appeals period. Despite the discontent of the temporary workers involved in the process, Educació assured that the final resolution was published when the appeals submitted were resolved within the deadline, ensuring that no applicant was left defenseless. "The final resolution takes effect from the moment of its publication, and the content of the annexes reflects the data obtained after the appeals period has expired. The signing times recorded in the documents reflect internal processing processes and do not compromise the validity or transparency of the procedure," the Ministry stated.
In total, 98.5% of the vacant teaching positions for the 2025-2026 academic year have been awarded., in the entire process of awarding temporary positions. Despite the high rate of vacancy coverage, the procedure has not been without controversy. For example, priority has been given to temporary teachers who left a vacancy due to dismissal, which has allowed teachers with few points to go ahead of others who perhaps had hundreds, but had not been dismissed. This is the case of Alba Borrasca. "I had a three-year vacancy, but I had to resign because I couldn't afford a part-time job. All the people with fewer points than me who had been dismissed went ahead of me. It's unfair. They should have been put back on the list with the accumulated points, so everyone could compete on equal terms," she explains.
Finally, in the first substitution process this Monday, Borrasca landed a place at the CEIP Mitjà de Mar (Portocristo) and suddenly took steps to facilitate family life until her daughter started school. "I booked the summer school, and now I don't need it because I'm out of work," she explains. The reason is that the Regional Ministry published up to four lists of assignments, and ultimately, the position was no longer for Borrasca. "I've suffered two injustices in less than a month. I understand that mistakes happen; they always happen, but the one from recent years is unspeakable," she laments. She asserts that there are many who, like her, obtained a place on the first application form, only to lose their job after the fourth and final assignment. "I know of six in my circle," she concludes.
