Education fills 98.5% of vacant teaching positions for the 2025-2026 academic year.

PalmThe Ministry of Education has awarded 98.5% of the vacant teaching positions for the 2025-2026 academic year in the series of temporary teaching positions held this summer. In the urgent process, which closed this Thursday, 131 positions were awarded out of the 186.5 positions pending in the first process, which closed last Friday. By island, 59.5 positions were awarded in Mallorca; 17 in Menorca; 44.5 in Ibiza; and 10 in Formentera. Between both processes, 2,408 of the 2,464 positions offered in schools in the Balearic Islands have been filled. Considering all the placement processes carried out during the month of July, the total number rises to 4,064 places awarded out of a total of 4,127.5, representing 98.5% coverage.

Regional Minister Antoni Vera positively assessed these figures. "By August 7th, almost all places were filled, and temporary workers will be able to plan their incorporation into the centers in advance. This was a commitment we had made, and we continue working with new software applications to further improve the management of placements for the next academic year," he said. The good placement coverage achieved does not mean that, for yet another year, the process has been characterized by technical problems, server outages, and difficulties for temporary workers in accessing procedures, something that has generated discontent among professionals.

The next procedure is at the end of August.

The Regional Ministry of Education reminds temporary teachers who have not obtained a position and who remain on the pool that their status has automatically changed to "unavailable." To participate in the next round of assignments, it is essential that they update their status to "available." The next round of assignments before the start of the school year will begin on August 29th, and assignments will be made on September 1st, with the aim of ensuring that the maximum number of teachers are filled before the start of the school year.

Education also defends itself against the statements made by unions regarding the procedure for awarding positions to temporary teachers. The Regional Ministry assures that the final decision was published after all the objections submitted were resolved within the established deadline, ensuring that no applicant was left defenseless. "The final resolution takes effect from the moment of its publication, and the content of the annexes reflects the data obtained after the deadline for objections has expired. The signing times stated in the documents correspond to internal processing procedures and do not compromise the validity or transparency of the procedure," says Educació.
