The initiative, endowed with 225,000 euros, will promote training, research and knowledge transfer in digital security.
PalmThe Balearic Government and the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) have presented the new Cybersecurity Chair, an initiative aimed at strengthening training, research, and knowledge transfer in digital security, an area the Government considers key to the archipelago's economic and technological development. The event took place at the Ministry of Economy, Finance, and Innovation, with the participation of the First Vice President and Minister, Antoni Costa; the UIB's parish priest, Jaume Carot; the Director General of Innovation and Digital Transformation, Sebastián González; and former Rector Llorenç Huguet. Costa stated that "this chair reinforces the Government's commitment to innovation and digital security, two essential pillars for transforming our economy and protecting businesses and citizens from the challenges of the digital world." The Vice President expressed his hope that the initiative, endowed with €225,000 for one year, will continue in the future. For his part, Rector Carot emphasized that "collaboration between the Government and the University is key to training qualified talent, promoting applied research, and transferring knowledge to the productive sector of the Balearic Islands."
Seven lines of action
The chair's activity plan will be developed through seven lines of action that combine teaching, research, and outreach. It includes training students and professionals in technical skills, employability programs with international certifications, security workshops for the tourism sector, preparation of technical reports for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), support for university projects, public awareness activities, and meetings between companies and researchers. The chair is part of the agreement signed between the Government and the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE), within the framework of the state program Retech, which promotes the digital transformation and security of companies and public administrations. According to the Government, the initiative aims to contribute to creating a network of knowledge and cooperation between academia, the business sector, and public institutions to consolidate a solid and innovative cybersecurity ecosystem in the Balearic Islands.
