The Government validates the 185 teaching specialties that are difficult to fill

This year they have a monthly supplement of 200 euros in Ibiza and 100 in Menorca

ARA Balears

PalmThe 2025-2026 school year has begun with 185 teaching specialties classified as hard-to-fill positions in the Balearic Islands. The Governing Council approved the new distribution this September, which affects all the islands, but with particular emphasis on Ibiza and Formentera. According to the resolution, 67 specialties correspond to Ibiza; 20 to Formentera; 50 to Mallorca; and 48 to Menorca. Of this total, 47 positions are offered only part-time, a condition that often makes it more difficult to find available staff.

In addition, all positions in Formentera and those in Ibiza and Menorca that have fewer than five applicants per position in the temporary employment pool, or that, despite having been announced, are not filled until at least fifteen days later, are considered very difficult to fill. Starting this September, hard-to-fill positions will have a monthly supplement of €200 in Ibiza and €100 in Menorca. For very hard-to-fill positions, the supplement increases from €300 per month to €400.

Hardship and Danger Supplements

Furthermore, nine jobs have also been identified as being considered particularly difficult, due to their danger, arduousness, or toxicity. Teachers who work there will receive a monthly supplement of 300 euros, also starting this September. With these measures, the Balearic government is trying to alleviate the structural shortage of teachers in certain specialties and locations, a problem that persists year after year, especially on small islands and in areas with significant recruitment difficulties.
