PalmThe student council of IES Politècnic has made its indignation public after the Palma City Council rejected, on two occasions, the cession of the Maruja Alfaro municipal theater for the celebration of the student graduation ceremony. As explained by the educational community, the council cited a lack of availability of the venue, despite the center assuring that no activities were scheduled on the requested dates. This circumstance, they emphasize, raises doubts about the real reasons for the refusal.

The center's management had requested to use the theater on Sant Magí street for various possible dates in June —specifically the 22nd, 23rd, 25th, 26th, 29th, and 30th— with the aim of celebrating the course graduation. The response, however, has been negative on both occasions. The assembly considers that the argument of lack of agenda "does not align with reality" and regrets that the use of the space has not been facilitated for an event they deem of special importance for the students and their families.

Center closure

This complaint is also framed within a context of tension at the center, which denounces the dismantling process driven by the Ministry of Education, which will convert the building into an Integrated Vocational Training Center (CIFP). According to the center's teachers' assembly, this decision will involve the transfer of about 300 students and more than 40 teachers to other educational centers.

In its statement, the educational community also expresses displeasure over what it describes as disrespectful treatment towards an institution with a long history in the city and believes it is being prevented from celebrating “with dignity” one of the last graduations in its current format. Finally, the assembly has asked the Palma City Council, headed by mayor Jaime Martínez (PP), to reconsider the decision and allow the event to be held in the municipal theater.
