PalmThe school year will begin with 159 modular classrooms, known as barracones, distributed across different schools throughout the Balearic Islands. Of these, 124 are in Mallorca, 19 in Ibiza, 9 in Formentera, and 7 in Menorca. Of the existing classrooms, the modules at CEIP Fornalutx, IES La Ribera, and IES Damià Huguet have been eliminated for the 2024-2025 academic year. Many of them have been redistributed to other schools, such as CEIP Maestro Guillem Galmés (several classrooms were sealed due to the poor condition of the infrastructure), CEIPIESO Son Vasca, and IES Puig de sa Font. In Menorca, the modular classrooms that were already in place at CEIP Nuestra Señora del Toro will be maintained to consolidate the school's curriculum (physical activity and sports vocational training will be offered at the same school).

As for Ibiza, the same barracks that existed last year remain. The Sa Colomina Secondary School (IES) has gained one, along with the Can Marines Secondary School (CIFP) which is incorporating basic intensive vocational training courses in gardening, and the Isidor Macabich Secondary School (IES) which is offering vehicle electromechanics for the first time. "The implementation of new vocational training courses justifies this increase," notes the Regional Ministry. In Formentera, the modular classrooms at the Pilar de la Mola Primary School (CEIP) are maintained. The Sant Ferran Secondary School (CEIP) is losing classrooms, which are being redistributed to the Marc Ferrer Secondary School, where expansion work is underway.

Infrastructure is lacking.

The exponential increase in the academic population is one of the most important issues facing the Ministry of Education. In this regard, a 10-year Infrastructure Plan has been presented, with a planned investment of 600 million euros. The document proposes building 77 centers, renovating 158, and renovating 60.infrastructure expansionsAccording to the Ministry of Education, several projects are scheduled to be completed during the 2025-2025 academic year, allowing for the gradual removal of around twenty modular classrooms. "This is the case, for example, with the expansion works at the Es Molins Primary School in Andratx, the Sant Marçal Secondary School, the San Miguel Primary School in Son Carrió, and the Can Misses Primary School in Ibiza," it explains.
