PalmThe Balearic Islands Ministry of Education and Universities and the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) have signed a collaboration agreement guaranteeing the continuity of gifted programs and increasing their financial contribution by 27.5%. The Minister of Education, Antoni Vera, and the Rector of the UIB, Jaume Carot, signed the agreement this Monday. According to a statement from the Ministry, these enrichment programs, Stimulation of Mathematical Talent (Estalmado) and MENTORiment, benefit 365 gifted students annually in schools across the archipelago. The four-year agreement includes a government contribution of €216,800 between 2025 and 2028 (27.5% more than the previous agreement) and aims to expand the number of mentoring sessions, increase student participation, and ensure quality and equity. Both programs, managed by the UIB, are initiatives that foster the development of talent and creativity, offering advanced learning opportunities and enriching experiences outside the regular classroom.

Sharing Talent

The MENTORiment program offers workshops and mentoring to up to 350 students in the third and fourth years of ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education), Bachillerato (Upper Secondary Education), and Vocational Training, allowing students to delve deeper into topics of interest and share their talents with other young people. Last year, 254 students from Mallorca, 44 from Menorca, 51 from Ibiza, and 1 from Formentera participated in this program. The Estalmat program, on the other hand, is aimed at students aged 12 and 13 with a strong aptitude for mathematics and seeks to develop these skills and abilities, benefiting approximately 15 young people annually.
