The 0-3 nursery workers will go on strike on May 7th to demand the dignification of the sector

Unions denounce precariousness, wage inequalities and demand an autonomous agreement to improve working and educational conditions

PalmThe three most representative unions ofCoinciding with the strike, the Xarxa 0-3, with union support, has called for rallies on the same May 7 at 6:00 PM in the Plaza de España in Palma, in Vara de Rey (Ibiza) and in the Plaza del Born (Ciutadella), with the aim of making the conflict visible and demanding immediate responses. These protests are a continuation of the mobilizations initiated in Mallorca, with rallies on April 27 and May 4. The call initially planned for May 11 has been canceled to coincide with the strike day.

Unions recall that they are the only ones legitimized to negotiate an autonomous sector agreement, as was proven in July 2025 with the signing of an agreement with employers that established an autonomous pay supplement for workers in indirectly managed centers. In this regard, they insist on the need not to confuse this area with that of private subsidized education, as they are governed by different agreements.

Salary inequality

According to their complaints, the 0-3 sector in the Balearic Islands suffers from specific problems such as the housing crisis, the cost of living, and the effects of insularity. Furthermore, they warn of significant internal inequalities: within the same sector, there are salary differences of more than 5,000 euros per year depending on the type of center management. Workers in private and indirectly managed municipal centers —who represent the majority— are the ones who, according to unions, are in the most precarious situation.

Faced with this scenario, CCOO, UGT, and STEI demand the immediate negotiation of an autonomous agreement that allows:

  • Establish adequate salaries for educational tasks.
  • Reduce labor precarity.
  • Recognize the sector as a full educational stage.
  • Equate the school calendar with the rest of the stages.
  • Ensure the presence of an educational partner.
  • Differentiate between the teaching day and the non-teaching day.
  • Improve the educational quality of the first cycle of early childhood education.
