PalmThe main union and employer organizations in the early childhood education sector reached an agreement this Monday to create a regional salary increase supplement for workers in indirectly managed daycare centers in the Balearic Islands. The agreement includes monthly supplements of between 200 and 400 euros depending on the professional category, an additional 60 euros for tutoring, 100 euros for teachers with a university degree, and annual supplement updates of 6% in 2026 and 2% in 2027. The agreement will be gradually implemented for all workers in September, starting from September 1st to August 1st, 2028.

According to Efe, the signing of the agreement was possible after months of union pressure through the indefinite strike by the workers of these centers. The strike was also called off this Monday after the workers, Palma City Council, and the concessionaire, Estudi 6, signed the agreement on Friday before the Balearic Islands Court of Arbitration and Mediation (Tamib).

The agreement will be formally signed next week between CCOO, UGT, and STEI, on the one hand, and Ceceib, Feipime, and the Business Association of Early Childhood Schools of Menorca, on the other. CCOO has defined it as a "turning point" toward a future regional agreement for the 0-3 education sector and emphasized that it is the first step toward establishing uniform economic improvements and dignifying a "precarious and undervalued" educational stage.

The union has emphasized that the new supplement will reduce the wage gap with directly managed daycare centers, move toward greater regional equity, and respond to the high cost of living on the islands.
