PalmaThe President of the Government, Marga Prohens, has lashed out against the two royal decree-laws on housing that will be debated this Friday in Congress. In an appearance in Ibiza, she asserted that "the rent today in the Islands is more expensive than last week" as an example of the "immediate pernicious effects" they cause, even though the price of rent in the Islands has increased every month since 2022, according to data from the Idealista portal.
"We are seeing it, in the first few hours, the number of offers that have already been withdrawn from the market in the Islands," the president said: "Today, anyone looking for an affordable rental has it more complicated than last week." During a ceremony for the laying of the first stone for the construction of 48 subsidized housing units in Ibiza, Prohens said she did not know the terms of the fine print of the decrees if they are approved.
As reported by Europa Press, Prohens said she does not know if the Islands will be able to refuse to apply them, as is already the case with the State Housing Law, which allows for price caps even though the PP has refused to apply it for three years now because, she assures, it "aggravates the problem".
The decree laws, he said, "have no basis whatsoever, but rather the pursuit of the chaos they have caused in the last 48 hours." "It is the culmination of the housing crisis caused by the left-wing parties," he stated. Although "the tenant must be protected," the way to do so is, in his view, to increase the housing supply and provide security to property owners so that they put their properties on the market.
