Arrested for burning bins in Palma and violating a restraining order
The man, 56 years old, had already been arrested 48 hours before for breaching the same precautionary measure
PalmaThe Local Police of Palma arrested on June 18 a 56-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of the fire of two containers on Gabriel Alzamora street. The agents also arrested him for having breached a court order that prohibited him from approaching within 500 meters of his mother's home.
The events happened in the early morning, around 03:45 AM, when several patrols from the Night Unit were dispatched to the area following the report of a fire affecting two organic waste containers. Upon arrival, the police officers confirmed that the flames could affect two vehicles parked very close by: a light quadricycle and a car.
To prevent major damage, the agents, with the collaboration of the Palma Firefighters, had to break the windows of both vehicles to access the interior, release the handbrake, and move them. Nevertheless, the quadricycle was affected by the fire at the rear. Both containers were completely incinerated.
During the intervention, a witness told the officers that he had seen a man with a red jacket and a backpack wandering erratically near the containers. According to his account, just after the individual moved away from the area, one of the containers began to burn.
With this description, the Local Police conducted a sweep of the surroundings and located the man a short distance away. During a superficial search, the agents found a lighter and a court order for release dated June 16th, only 48 hours earlier, following a previous arrest for breach of a precautionary measure.
After carrying out checks, the 092 base confirmed that the man had an active order prohibiting him from approaching within 500 meters of his mother's home. At the time of his arrest, he was approximately 200 meters from the residence.
