PalmaThe National Police have arrested a man in Palma accused of labor exploitation of a worker who spent four months working aboard a yacht. According to the complaint, during all this time she only received 480 euros of the 17,500 that were owed to her, in addition to suffering abusive working conditions, assaults, and episodes in which she did not even have enough food.

The investigation began after the woman reported her employer. She worked as a sailor and hostess on the vessel and claims that she never received any regular salary. She only received small amounts to cover basic needs while continuing to carry out the tasks assigned to her.

The situation, according to the victim's account, went far beyond non-payment. There were days when she did not sleep more than four hours because she was required to work constantly and also had to assume tasks that exceeded her capabilities. The woman also reported having received degrading treatment and assaults.

At some points, she states, she even went hungry. She ended up feeding herself only with half a sandwich because there was no more food available on board.

During her stay on the ship, she also suffered carbon monoxide poisoning related to deficiencies in the facilities. The episode put her life at risk and caused her lasting effects, including a partial loss of hearing for a time.

Finally, faced with the impossibility of continuing in these conditions and after assuming that she would hardly be paid the money she was owed, she abandoned the vessel. After filing the complaint, she returned to her country of origin.
