Ciutadella reaches the Games of the Plan after a night with injured and a massive brawl
The Local Police dissolved a brawl between about 200 young people during the hazelnuts and health services attended dozens of people during the party
CiutadellaThe Sant Joan de Ciutadella festivals are experiencing their last big day this Wednesday with the Jocs del Pla as the culmination of the main events, although the program will still extend until Thursday with Sant Joanet. The celebration reaches this final stretch after a night marked by several injuries, a mass brawl during the hazelnut throwing, and sanctions for individuals acting as pirate taxis.
Despite these incidents, the Local Police and the Menorca Health Area have emphasized that no particularly serious events have been recorded. The most notable episode took place in Plaça de les Palmeres during the hazelnut throwing celebration, when about 200 young people, divided into two groups, staged a fight in which glass bottles were thrown.
The Local Police and the National Police intervened and managed to disperse the altercation in approximately fifteen minutes without any arrests. Police officials have warned that they will take note of what happened to reinforce prevention in future editions, as they consider that this type of incident harms the tradition and generates risky situations in a celebration with a large presence of families and minors.
Various medical assistance
The festival has also left several people attended by health services. During the Caragol del Born, two men suffered cranioencephalic trauma after being hit by a horse. Both spent the night under observation – one at Mateu Orfila hospital and the other at Juaneda clinic – and have already been discharged.
A 62-year-old woman remains admitted after being transferred to the emergency room with a fractured arm. In addition, five more people were attended and transferred during the caragols of Les Voltes and Santa Clara, although none of these cases are serious. Throughout the day, the Red Cross and SAMU 061 attended to about forty people for minor contusions, burns, fainting spells, or heatstroke.
During the rehearsals for the Jocs del Pla this Wednesday morning, there were also two assists for injuries related to horses, one of which was for a head wound that required stitches.
Final stretch with the Jocs del Pla
The early morning also left four sanctions for individuals who used their vehicles as pirate taxis, a practice that the Police had already detected in previous days. Around 6,000 people gathered in the Pla area during the night.
The festival will experience one of its most anticipated moments this Wednesday afternoon and evening with the Jocs del Pla, which are expected to bring together more than 25,000 people in the port's colàrsega. The day concludes the main events of Sant Joan, with a procession formed by 123 caixers, before Sant Joanet puts an end to the celebration on Thursday.
