PalmThe Costitx City Council has definitively approved the modification of the fiscal ordinance that regulates the use of municipal rooms and movable goods, a novelty especially designed for the use of the auditorium of the Casa de la Vila. The measure stands out for the notable increase in the rental price of the aforementioned space for those who are not registered in the municipality.

Although the document does not mention it, it is intended to somehow tax the weddings of external individuals who request this municipal service. This decision, driven by the government team headed by Mayor Antoni Salas, responds to the need to regulate the high demand for civil weddings celebrated by couples from outside the town who choose the town hall for their ceremonies.

According to the new text, while residents of Costitx will continue to pay a fee of 50 euros for the use of this space, those who are not on the municipal register will have to pay 250 euros, a figure that multiplies the cost for residents by five and represents an increase of 400%.

The Costitx City Council indicates that the fact that this price has also been increased in other municipalities, added to the waiting lists in towns such as Inca or Manacor, has led to an increase in requests for the hall for wedding purposes. All this poses a challenge for a small town hall like Costitx, which cannot meet certain demands and lacks the staff to handle all the bureaucracy involved in a marriage.

The ordinance also clarifies other cases for the use of municipal facilities. Activities promoted by non-profit organizations will continue to be free, provided that no admission is charged to attendees. In the event that these entities do charge a fee or admission, they will have to pay a fixed fee of 35 euros.
