PalmThe 2024-2025 academic year was the first in which secondary schools had access to a health psychologist, "a pioneering measure across Spain that has brought about a structural change in the emotional support of students," notes Educació. In total, 76 professionals were employed this year. The psychologists worked in secondary schools (IES), integrated vocational training centers (CIFP), special education centers (CEE), and publicly funded charter schools (CC). In total, 5,700 people—including students, teachers, and families—were served through individual and group interventions tailored to the needs of each educational community.

The focus has been primarily on adolescents, with a significant concentration among those aged 14 and 15, especially in the second year of compulsory secondary education, and with a greater demand from females. The most common reasons for consultation have been anxiety, difficulties in interpersonal relationships, and family issues. Students and six families recognized the key role of family support in the educational process.

38.8% of the cases corresponded to students with specific educational support needs (SES), while 61.2% were students without SES, "which shows that the intervention is not only specialized, but also preventive, comprehensive, and universal." Among the most frequent types of SES are language and communication development disorders, as well as attention and learning difficulties.

The group interventions have been diverse and adapted to each center, with actions focused on emotional management, social skills, and anxiety, among other topics. The professionals value that 65.3% of the participants have experienced significant improvement after the group sessions.
