Investigate a man for recording a young woman without consent on the Inca train
The victim, 20 years old, was warned by another passenger that the man was secretly recording her and managed to photograph him before asking for help from a guard at the Intermodal Station.
PalmaThe Palma Local Police have initiated proceedings against a 66-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against privacy after he allegedly recorded a 20-year-old young woman with his mobile phone without her consent while they were traveling on the Inca train. The events took place on August 4, when the woman was heading towards Palma, and the suspect was subsequently detained by a security guard at the Plaça d'Espanya Intermodal Station.
According to the victim's account, detailed in the complaint, the man sat in front of her during the journey and looked at her insistently, although she initially paid no attention. The situation changed at the Pont d'Inca stop, when another passenger getting off the train warned her that the individual was secretly recording her with his mobile phone.
The young woman, scared and fearing that the man might react violently, decided not to confront him and continued her journey as if she had noticed nothing. In the following minutes, however, she managed to take a photograph of the alleged perpetrator without him noticing.
Upon arriving at the Palma Intermodal Station, the young woman quickly got off the train and asked for help from the security guard, who advised her to go to the Local Police station located on the surface. Officers from the Immediate Intervention Unit (UII) went down to the platforms accompanied by the victim, who was visibly distressed.
At that moment, the guard informed them that he had already detained the suspect. The officers identified the man, who appeared very nervous during the intervention. According to the Local Police, the investigated individual spontaneously admitted the facts and stated that it was the first time he had done so and that he would not repeat it.
The man voluntarily handed over his mobile phone to the officers. Upon reviewing its storage, the police located the victim's images and videos. The officers made a copy with the police corporate phone so that the material would be incorporated as evidence in the proceedings.
Subsequently, according to the Local Police, the officers verified how the investigated individual deleted the files from both the gallery and the trash bin of the device while the unit was present.
The Accidents Department informed both parties of the instruction of the police report and accompanied the victim so that she could formalize the complaint. The proceedings have been sent to the Guard Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance, which will have to determine the next steps of the investigation.
