The accused of killing his ex's mother in the Colony: "If it was me, I don't remember"
The Prosecutor's Office raises the request to 25 years in prison, while the defense claims acquittal alleging that he was acting under the effects of alcohol
PalmaThe accused ofmurdering his ex-partner's mother on a farm in the Colònia de Sant Jordi in September 2024 after beating her to death, has stated this Wednesday in the jury trial that if he did it, he doesn't remember.
The Prosecutor's Office has increased its request to 25 years in prison and compensation of 150,000 euros for the victim's family, while the private prosecution is seeking life imprisonment with review.
The defense, for its part, has requested acquittal or, in case of conviction, that the mitigating circumstance of having acted under the effects of alcohol consumption be taken into account, Efe reports.
The events being tried took place on September 25, 2024, in a dwelling in the Colònia de Sant Jordi, in the south of Mallorca, where the accused lived together with the victim and her ex-partner, the deceased's daughter. "How did she die?", the prosecutor asked the accused. "No idea", he replied. "Were you there?", the public prosecution continued. "Apparently yes", replied the man, of Portuguese origin.
"Waking up from a dream and seeing blood"
In his statement, the accused recalled "a strange sensation, like waking from a dream, looking down and seeing blood". He added that he called the police twice, but couldn't express himself very well as he didn't understand very well what they were saying to him.
A Civil Guard agent confirmed during the trial at the Audiencia de Palma that the assault took place on the ground, where the 74-year-old victim of the assault was lying face down in a pool of blood. He received several blows, some of them to the head. Under the victim's body was a flip-flop that the accused allegedly lost during the assault. Two bloodstains, compatible with the sole of the accused's shoe, were also found at the crime scene.
Around the property was the victim's ex-son-in-law. "He had his right foot and trousers stained with blood, as well as splashes on his t-shirt. He had no injuries on his body that could have been the result of a fight," an officer commented.
On the first day of testimonies, the victim's daughter recounted that she withdrew two previous complaints for mistreatment due to fear of the alleged perpetrator.
She also related that arguments, insults, and threats were common in the home, to the point of sleeping with furniture blocking her bedroom door or with her shoes on in case they had to flee the place.
In her statement, she explained that on the day of the crime, while she was working, she received a call from her mother in which she heard "piercing" screams, which is why she went to the family home in a state of shock.
