The Government approves the construction of 200 rental homes for researchers at Parc Bit
Costa defends the need for "there to be life" in this space
PalmThe Government has approved this Friday a modification of the Special Plan of the Balearic Technology Innovation Park, Parc Bit of Palma, to build 200 homes. These will be temporary rental apartments for researchers and workers of the complex to live there.
The Government spokesperson, Antoni Costa, has explained that various plots of land in Parc Bit will be made available to build these 'coliving' housing units, meaning: room rentals for workers related to the research sector, who would share common spaces with other people. According to Executive sources, it is also being studied that a portion of these plots could be allocated to service premises such as catering.
"The idea is to provide facilities so that there is life in Parc Bit, so that companies have all the services they need, not just in the morning, but also in the afternoon and on weekends," Costa explained. However, he ruled out that these services could be "for leisure" but rather focused on the needs of the companies.
All this will be carried out through an agreement between the Ministry of Economy and the Balearic Housing Institute (IBAVI). "We need there to be life in Parc Bit," he stated, and recalled that Ibavi has acquired a plot from Sareb, and there are two more in the hands of Fundació Bit.
On the other hand, the modification of the plan also implies that the plots of Parc Bit will be opened up for technology and innovation companies to have "a small manufacturing part" in their premises. This Friday's change continues a process that began with the repeal of a more restrictive decree from the previous legislature. "Before the urban planning modification, housing could not be built in Parc Bit; it is the key mistake that was made in its design," he declared.
