The PSIB justifies Madrid's veto of airport co-management: "We warned that it had weaknesses"
The socialists do not clarify if Francina Armengol will try to process the bill
PalmaThe Spanish government has vetoed the processing of the bill for airport co-management alleging that it could economically harm Aena. The Congress of Deputies will not be able to debate and vote on it if the Bureau, presided over by Francina Armengol, does not lift this veto. The deputy spokesperson for the PSIB, Marc Pons, did not clarify this Monday whether the socialist will attempt to do so or not, but he did insist on the party's position contrary to this text. "We warned of the weaknesses and frailties that were in this text," he asserted: "We said that there was a high risk that it would fail.".
Pons recalled that the PSIB already abstained during the vote on the initiative in Parliament, because it considered that it invaded state competencies. "Our approach is for airport co-management along the lines of that of the Basque Country, a model that is also being proposed for Catalonia," he said: "It is viable." He avoided commenting on the Spanish government's argument for preventing the debate on the bill promoted by MÉS per Mallorca with the PP, which is that, if approved, it would harm Aena economically. But he said that "it is a private company, which is listed on the IBEX 35 with public shareholdings".
Prohens: "The PP wants it to be processed"
The President of the Government, Marga Prohens, has criticized the Spanish government for this veto. "The PP wants the process to continue," she said after the parliamentary sessions that the PP held this morning. "The PSOE government, which this summer has spoken out against overcrowding, says that the law cannot be debated," she lamented in statements collected by Europa Press.
For his part, the leader of MÉS per Mallorca, Lluís Apesteguia, has considered that the arguments given by the State executive are "false" because they are based on revenue data from the airport network that are speculation and, furthermore, correspond to the 2026 financial year, when the regulation would come into force beyond 2027. The eco-sovereigntists are the promoters of the regulation and have assured that they have the support of the members of the SUMAR Board to lift the veto.
