FormenteraA Civil Guard patrol boat located the lifeless body of a teenager on Saturday afternoon about six miles south of Formentera. The corpse was in an advanced state of decomposition and was wearing a life jacket, two elements that suggest it could be a migrant who died during the crossing to the Balearic Islands.

The body was located around 4 p.m. and was subsequently transported to the port of Ibiza aboard a Civil Guard vessel. There, the forensic doctor was waiting, who had to begin the judicial and forensic procedures to determine the identity of the youth and the circumstances of death through an autopsy.

A weekend with several arrivals

The discovery occurred during a weekend marked by several arrivals of small boats in the Balearic Islands. On Saturday, the Civil Guard also located 11 migrants who were sailing in a vessel three miles south of Formentera.

Furthermore, on Friday 29 people were intercepted after arriving by boat in the area of l'Estufador, in Formentera.

The death of the teenager thus adds to the cases of people who have lost their lives during these crossings. IB3 reported on Saturday the discovery of another corpse, that of a woman, on the coast of Migjorn in Formentera, and placed at ten the number of bodies presumably linked to migrants that had appeared on the island's coast during the year.
