Vera defends support for schools in Gaza to Vox: "They have held events in support of peace."
The counselor distances himself from Ayuso and the far right
PalmThe regional minister of Education, Antoni Vera, joined forces this Tuesday with the teachers who have mobilized in recent weeks to denounce Israel's attacks on the Palestinian population. He distanced himself from both the government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, which banned Palestinian flags and support for Gaza in Madrid schools, and Vox. "All the teachers have done is hold events to denounce a humanitarian crisis, in favor of peace, and against violence," he stated in the plenary session of the Parliament.
In the same vein, Vera recalled Article 3 of the Education Law of the Canary Islands, which establishes in its general, pedagogical, and organizational principles "respect for human rights and training for peace." The minister made these statements after Vox MP Sergio Rodríguez asked him if he is proud of the "use of public money by teachers to support the terrorist group Hamas."
"There is no evidence that any teacher on these islands has used public funds to glorify Hamas terrorism," the minister responded. "I am proud of the teaching staff; they all have the support of the Government, and we have a corps of educational inspectors to ensure compliance with current legislation," he said.
In response to this position, Rodríguez asked Vera if he belongs to the same party as former Spanish President José María Aznar, who said in a speech last week that if Israel "loses what it is doing," the world would be on the brink of "total defeat."
