Vox again files for the repeal of the Memory Law and Prohens guarantees its support.
"We always comply with agreements," said the president.
PalmVox is once again attacking the Democratic Memory Law and filed this Tuesday, for the second time in this term, a petition to repeal the law in Parliament. "We demand the immediate processing of this initiative, which seeks to put an end to sectarian, vindictive legislation used as a tool for ideological manipulation," it said in a statement. Prime Minister Marga Prohens has guaranteed the Popular Party's support for the measure: eliminating this law was part of the PP and Vox budget pact: "We always abide by agreements."
"The Democratic Memory Law has served exclusively to divide citizens, reopen wounds, and rewrite history from a deeply sectarian ideological perspective," said Cañadas. This is the party's second attempt to kill the law, after the PP decided to save it last December as a result of the breakdown of the pact between the two parties. Prohens' party abstained at the last minute, frustrating Vox's plans, when it was forced to negotiate with the left on the approval of two executive decrees. But this time, with relations with the far right once again favorable, the law's days are numbered. "Of course," the president explained, as reported by Europa Press: "Vox presents its proposals; this is part of an agreement, and we will comply."
Since the beginning of the legislature, the PP has used the Democratic Memory Law as a bargaining chip in various negotiations. For the Popular Party (PP), this law is unnecessary, as they consider the Graves Law to be the most important. For Vox, however, its repeal would represent a victory against the left. Tensions between the far right and the PSIB, MÁS por Mallorca, Más por Menorca, and Unidas Podemos over this issue have been particularly evident in the Parliament. The Speaker of the House, Gabriel Le Senne, is being investigated for an alleged hate crime for detaching a photograph of Aurora Picornell and the Rojas del Molinar from the computer of the second secretary of the Bureau, Mercedes Garrido (PSIB). Despite attempts by the left, the PP has so far refused to remove Le Senne from his position as a result of these events. Meanwhile, Vox promoted him internally and appointed him provincial president of the party.
