PalmThe state leadership of Vox appointed Gabriel Le Senne as the party's new president in the Balearic Islands on Tuesday. Abascal's party did not hesitate to internally promote the Speaker of the Parliament, who is awaiting trial for a possible hate crime. On the contrary, it has removed the party's current Balearic leader, Patricia de las Heras, without explanation: in a statement, she simply thanked her for the "work she has done."

The Ibizan, who is currently on maternity leave and votes in plenary sessions remotely, is one of the most loyal figures to Abascal's leadership, along with Le Senne himself. However, she has drawn internal criticism since taking office in January 2023. It was Madrid that appointed her to lead the party in the Islands, but she has never enjoyed internal support in the region. In June 2023, the MP sent a lengthy report to the state leadership warning that the party's former leader in the Canary Islands, Jorge Campos, could be benefiting financially from the party. The documents were sent to the executive branch in the midst of negotiations with the PP to appoint Marga Prohens. Abascal opted to remove Campos from the provincial leadership and send him to Congress as a deputy.

For his part, Le Senne has gained weight and notoriety in the media as president of the Parliament, from where he has tried to implement the Vox agenda with initiatives to promote the use of Spanish in the Chamber or confrontations with the Board so that Do not hang the LGBTI flag on the facadeBut his most controversial action took place on June 19th when, in the midst of the debate to repeal the Law of Democratic Memory, he tore up a photograph of Aurora Picornell and Les Roges del Molinar and expelled the members of the Board who were displaying it (from the PSIB). For these actions, he is currently under investigation and awaiting trial. However, his position as Speaker of the House is not in jeopardy, as, so far, the PP and Vox have thwarted the left's attempts to remove him.

Sources within Abascal's leadership explain the change in terms of the elections. "De las Heras has completed a period of transition following Campos' departure. We are grateful and happy, but we are beginning to prepare for the 2027 elections," these sources explain. In this sense, they consider Le Senne the most prominent figure and the one best positioned to win votes from the PP in the upcoming election campaign. For now, then, he is the best positioned to lead the lists.
