Do you want to live in a country governed by yourself?

Groucho Marx is credited with saying he would never want to belong to a club that would have him as a member. I often have to reassure my friends, when we talk about politics and I unleash my often openly boorish thoughts, that they should relax, that deep down I would never want to live in a country governed by someone who thinks like me.

It's not that I don't think everything I think(!). It's just that we are all too aware of the biases we carry, me and everyone else, of my tics and quirks, of prejudices and my tendency to adopt categorical and radical discourses even if only for show, because, deep down, I have the spirit of what in good Spanish is called...scares old women'.

But it's so obvious to me that a country governed by me would be a complete disaster that I'm forced to ask myself the following question: what kind of psychopath wants to live in a country governed by himself?

Because, have you heard yourself speak? Have you read your comments on social media? And what do you think of all this?

To be honest, it scares me just to think that my vote, already quite misguided, is worth the same as those who comment on every news item on a certain local newspaper's website. In fact, I wouldn't let most of them near my son if I knew who they were. But some of them seem to have a very clear idea of what to do to solve incredibly complex problems and issues, and they know the causes and culprits behind current hot topics that even the protagonists themselves haven't had time to process. In fact, they, and only they, see very simple solutions to conflicts that require extremely delicate balancing acts to avoid creating utter chaos. And I read them and feel a total panic. Because I see some people very sure that these complex, intertwined, and chaotic times can be fixed by simply taking the right approach, and that a few slogans laden with nostalgia and naiveté are enough to straighten out society.

I wish it were so, but I have bad news for all of you... The world will always be more incomprehensible and diverse than any of us are capable of understanding, at least without a great effort, and any action that doesn't recognize this fact will be like trying, like babies, to force a square peg through a hole.

And we live in a world of expert-level complexity, so thick you couldn't even invent it...

I, for one, would never have imagined that there were people so uninhibited and at the same time so full of resentment as to leave certain comments. Nor could I have imagined, not even in my deepest delusions, such improbable and unhinged characters as Milei or Trump, and yet there they are, the living portrait of the psychopath with a mission, a first-rate public danger, because there is no idiot more dangerous than a macho and confident idiot.
