It's clear that it's 'No to war'
We've been told about World War III so many times that when it finally arrives, we won't believe it. Just as we never imagined a politician like Donald Trump could exist, an egomaniac who has undermined the role of a leader in a democratic state, decency, and any sense of the ridiculous. Having become a caricature and a mirror for far-right populists, he threatens the world order, driven by his megalomania. If you stir up hornets' nests in Ukraine, Venezuela, Gaza, Greenland, and Iran, sooner or later one of them will sting us all.
This businessman, before he was a politician, and more showman What a statesman! Someone had to stand up to him, and here it was. Sanche Dog by setting himself up as an example of European leadership. Electorally, the move is a success because, as the right wing points out, it's resurrecting the 'No to War' movement of Zapatero's time. Beyond that, it's an example of consistency and decency. It's also an absolute truism, defused the moment the PP criticizes and questions it. It's pathetic to see Ayuso repeating talking points likely written for her by Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, lost simply due to the inertia of confronting the president.
I don't expect the PP to applaud, but they should at least remain silent: what's being resurrected isn't the 'No to War' movement of 2003, but rather avoiding the disastrous consequences of the Azores photo op. Who would have thought we'd be longing for George Bush Jr... Ayuso or Feijóo or any of them can't threaten us by saying that not participating in Trump's follies, which violate the most basic international law, will isolate us or cause us to starve. The idea of an embargo is absurd when Spain is part of the EU. But we live in times when the truth doesn't matter, only noise and fear. The polls show an absolute majority for the right-wing bloc (with Vox surging, it's true) in the general elections. Their eagerness is overwhelming. They can't wait to take over the Spanish government. But even Meloni has shown common sense in the face of Trump's nonsense.
The rights of the Iranian population, especially women's rights, are now a matter of state, when they were incapable of calling Gaza a 'genocide' while we watched thousands of children literally die of hunger. It's clear that we must say 'No' to war. Without hesitation. Without recriminations. And if not, silence. I don't want to see Sánchez with his feet up on the table smoking a cigar with Trump. I hope Feijóo doesn't either.
