Hundreds of people take to the streets in Palma to say "No to war"
Chanting "No to war" and "No NATO or bases," the protesters have called for "peace and life."
PalmHundreds of people gathered this Friday in Palma's Plaza de las Tortugas to express their rejection of the war in the Middle East and other conflicts such as those in Palestine and Ukraine.
Chanting "No to war" and "No NATO, no bases," hundreds of citizens rallied in support of "peace and life" at a protest organized by Mallorca for Peace, Mallorca for Palestine, and the Mallorca Marches for Palestine. The organizers read a manifesto condemning the US and Israeli attack on Iran, which they described as "a treacherous act of aggression committed in the midst of peace negotiations and completely outside the bounds of legality."
They also referenced the genocide in Palestine and the war in Ukraine. "The innocent are always the victims of modern warfare," they lamented, adding that currently "there are no fewer than seven high-intensity conflicts." Regarding the Spanish government's position on the conflict in Iran, the organizers welcomed the "No to war" statement made by Spanish President Pedro Sánchez, although they criticized the deployment of the frigate. Christopher Columbus in Cyprus.
"It is not utopian to aspire to a society without wars," they argued, concluding by urging citizens to mobilize under the slogan 'For peace and for life. Not in war. No bases, no NATO.'
