Saturation: it is time for responsibility

PalmIt is difficult not to talk about the summer issue. No matter how much the beatings and the lack of knowledge of those responsible for the National Police have entertained us for a few days, what has become clear here is that there is enormous discontent among the citizenry due to the saturation we are suffering.

And it is not, as some have tried to make it seem, a movement against tourism. At this point, no one is considering a sudden change to the Islands' main activity in the short term. The only thing attendees of the 26-J demonstration, and the thousands and thousands who did not go but were there in some way, are asking for is that living in the Balearic Islands cannot be torture, nor a condemnation to bad moods, permanent traffic jams, or the impossibility of ever buying an apartment.

And this is legitimate. And we should be proud that citizens of all walks of life and ideologies take to the streets in less than 40 degrees to demand it. Now, however, comes the time for responsibility. On the part of civil society entities, to properly guide this social moment, which is different from what we have experienced until now: from anxiety, frustration, and indignation, which do not disappear, we move to a scenario where at least a wave of will for change can be felt. At the very least, to mitigate these abuses that the land and the people who cannot walk through the center of their town without feeling like strangers are suffering.

From political parties, not to want to profit from the almost pre-election moment. From employers' associations, as CAEB and FEHM have done in recent days, not to deny the evidence. And from the Government. Not to think about tactics or to avoid stepping on any toes. To take the bull by the horns and assume that clear measures and less discourse are needed.
