They are children, not an economic burden

"They are children, not packages," was how Prime Minister Marga Prohens spoke about the distribution of unaccompanied minors who arrived in the Canary Islands and other territories of the Spanish State. Because they are children, not political weapons, and the Popular Party is dedicated to using them as projectiles against Pedro Sánchez's PSOE. Individualism can also be a political issue. The only conclusion I can reach is that these children hardly matter to anyone.
It's embarrassing that the approach is framed in terms of economic costs. Perhaps at this point we should say "They are children, not an economic burden," for example. Because behind the use of children as political weapons lies racism, xenophobia, and aporophobia.
