Algaida will name Francesc Antich an Illustrious Son of the municipality this Saturday

The award ceremony will take place as part of the Sant Honorat festivities, which are being celebrated this week.

PalmFormer Prime Minister Francesc Antich, who died a year agoHe will be named an Illustrious Son of Algaida this Saturday at an extraordinary municipal plenary session. The solemn ceremony, open to the public, will recognize his political career and commitment to public service, and will include musical performances and the unveiling of his official portrait, which will be displayed in the plenary hall.

The recognition will take place, according to the municipality, as part of the Sant Honorat festivities, which are being celebrated this week. One of the highlights will be the open-air dance this Thursday, which will fill the town square with fire and a festive atmosphere. At dusk, there will be a fireworks display, a parade with the giant figures and the brass band, the lighting of the bonfires with the demons of Cova des Fossar and the Xicarandana Percusió percussion group, followed by the traditional communal toast and dancing with the Cárritx group. The following day, Friday, January 16, a mass will be held in honor of the patron saint, with music sung by the Orfeó Castellitx choir. The Cossiers de Algaida will perform the Oferta dance, one of the most emblematic elements of the municipality's intangible heritage. After the mass, the Cossiers will dance again in front of the church.

The plenary session to name Antich Fill Il·lustre will take place on Saturday at 12:00 noon in the Porrassar multipurpose room and will be open to the public. An official portrait will also be unveiled.
