All the parties in Palma endorse the purchase of Can Pesquet and the Iris cinema

PalmaPalma City Council has unanimously approved the purchase of Can Pesquet, in Son Sardina, and the former Iris cinema, in El Viver, two spaces that could be converted into new public facilities for both neighborhoods. The proposal must now go through next week's municipal plenary session.

The spokesperson for MÉS per Palma, Neus Truyol, has celebrated the agreement but has criticized the PP government's management and accused them of lying. According to her, last June the municipal government assured in a North District meeting that negotiations to buy Can Pesquet were "very advanced" and that the acquisition would be made imminently. In August it became known that a private individual had bought the plot."This shows how they lie to us," stated Truyol, who assured that at that moment no approach or negotiation had taken place to materialize the purchase.

Truyol explained that during the previous legislative term, the Detailed Planning Plan (POD) identified these two spaces as future facilities or squares and protected them from possible urban developments, and criticized the PP for letting this plan fall through upon reaching the government, and with it, the protection of the two properties. The old Iris cinema was acquired more than a year ago by an investment fund.

Now, MÉS has promoted the proposals so that the acquisitions would be made immediately and, this Friday they received the support of all the groups. Now, if there are no last-minute changes, the initiative will be approved at the City Council plenary session on Thursday, September 24.
