Ibiza declares "saturated and in reconversion" three tourist areas of the island

PalmaThe plenary session of the Ibiza Council approved this Friday the declaration of three tourist areas in the municipality of Vila as "saturated tourist areas and areas for redevelopment," which means that plans, projects, and redevelopment actions must be considered of insular strategic interest.

The declared areas are the old town and the city's promenade, and the areas of Platja d'en Bossa and Talamanca that correspond to the municipality. As reported by the City Council in a statement, the declaration includes a Redevelopment Plan, with an initial forecast of 35 million euros for public and private actions, to renovate public infrastructure, modernize tourist establishments, and improve mobility, public space, water, sanitation, flood risk, the coastline, and heritage.

The vice-president and counselor of Territory and Tourist Planning, Mariano Juan, highlighted that these declarations "do not intend to increase tourist capacity, but rather to redevelop and improve what already exists." The economic forecast has an initial estimate of 6.9 million for infrastructure and accessibility, 1.5 million for sustainable mobility, and 22 million for urban reorganization and improvement.

Also, 3 million euros are earmarked for renovating the tourist offer; 1.8 million for natural resources and spaces, and 500,000 euros for governance and participation. The plan is to approve the declarations of saturated tourist areas or redevelopment areas for the rest of the municipalities before the end of 2026.
