MÁS per Mallorca celebrates the Capdepera mayoralty after the disagreements: "It's a source of pride"
The party coordinator acknowledges the internal tensions following the local pact with the PP, but highlights the "rebuilding of bridges" and the restored unity.
PalmCapdepera will have its first pro-independence mayor, a move that MÁS por Mallorca describes as "a source of pride and hope" for the entire party. According to party coordinator Lluís Apesteguia, in a letter to party members, the change in leadership symbolizes "the culmination of decades of work by many people who have fought for a better municipality within a better Mallorca."
However, the road to this point has not been easy. The letter acknowledges that the decision by the local MÉS per Capdepera Assembly to form a pact with the People's Party (PP) generated a profound disagreement with the MÉS per Mallorca Executive Committee, which maintained the policy of not establishing agreements with the PP until they isolated the far right from the institutions. Despite the differences, sources within the party leadership admit that they understood the local complexity: "We knew that MÉS per Capdepera represented the desire for change of more than a thousand residents of Capdepera in the face of a Socialist Party (PSOE) exhausted and far removed from our proposals," the document states. The Executive Committee emphasizes that the ties were never broken, and that for more than two years they have worked "discreetly but with conviction" to rebuild trust and combine efforts, as previously reported by ARA Baleares. The text emphasizes that the party is "municipalist by vocation," but also a "national project" that requires political coherence at all institutional levels. Finally, MÁS per Mallorca expresses its appreciation to councilors Yannick, Mireia, Joan, Marga, and Pilar, whom it considers "the best representatives Capdepera could have."
