MÉS per Palma denounces that the Government will reduce sanctions for illegal tourist rental up to 80%
Neus Truyol states that the modification "turns a sanction into an economic incentive" and calls for strengthening the prosecution of illegal flats
PalmaMÉS per Palma has attacked this Monday the reform promoted by the PP and Vox Government through the Omnibus Law, which plans to reduce by up to 80% the sanctions imposed for illegal tourist rental if owners incorporate the homes into certain public rental programs.
The eco-sovereignist party considers that the measure benefits owners who have marketed tourist homes without a license and maintains that it sends a "very worrying message", because, as it denounces, offenders can see their fines considerably reduced and, at the same time, obtain income if they join the Safe Rental program.
The spokesperson for MÉS per Palma, Neus Truyol, has assured that this modification turns sanctions into "an economic incentive" and has argued that fines must have a deterrent effect. According to the party, until now the reductions in sanctions aimed to recover homes to allocate them to affordable rental, while the new regulation also incorporates the possibility for owners to receive economic compensation through the regional program.
In this regard, MÉS states that owners who join the Safe Rental program can receive up to 88,200 euros over seven years, a figure that it considers incompatible with the sanctioning purpose of fines.
The party has also criticized the results of the Safe Rental program. It recalls that the Government announced the incorporation of 2,000 homes and maintains that the objective has not been met. Therefore, it considers that bonuses for sanctioned owners are not the way to promote this initiative.
Finally, MÉS per Palma has called on the regional Executive to withdraw this reform and strengthen control measures against illegal tourist rental with the aim of increasing the housing stock for residential use.
