They resume this Tuesday the excavations of the V Plan of graves in Son Servera

PalmaThe excavation and archaeological research work in Son Servera resumes this Tuesday within the framework of the V Plan of Pits of the Balearic Islands, continuing the tasks initiated in the municipal cemetery and extending them to private properties in the municipality to search for, exhume, and identify those who disappeared during the Civil War.

This new phase continues the work begun in April at the Son Servera cemetery. In that intervention, specialized teams acted in different areas of the enclosure, in accordance with the information obtained during the historical research and the testimonies previously collected, the Ministry of the Presidency recalled in a statement.

The interventions will be carried out by specialized teams from the UTE formed by the Aranzadi Society of Sciences and ATICS. The teams will continue their work at the same cemetery and will also begin excavations on various private properties in Son Servera. The actions will allow for a deeper investigation of the spaces identified from historical documentation and available testimonies, and in case human remains are found, the established protocols for their recovery, study, and identification will be followed.

During this year, the V Plan de Fosses has also allowed for an action at Comellar Fons in Son Servera. The archaeological work carried out in July made it possible to rule out the presence of a mass grave in the prospected area. After the interventions carried out in Ibiza and Formentera, the Government is now continuing its work in Son Servera, with the aim of continuing to investigate the events, advancing in the identification of the victims, returning them to their families, and guaranteeing them a dignified burial.
