Prohens speaks to Felipe VI about the problem of population growth, and Le Senne speaks about the low birth rate.

The Prime Minister will meet with Pedro Sánchez tomorrow.

PalmThe Prime Minister, Marga Prohens, and the Speaker of the Parliament, Gabriel Le Senne, have conveyed contradictory messages to Felipe VI regarding the demographic situation in the Balearic Islands. While Prohens spoke of the Balearic Islands as a prime example of a Spain that is filling up, Le Senne expressed his concern about the low birth rate in the islands. Both met with the Spanish king at the Almudaina Palace.

"We Mallorcans will be in danger of extinction, no matter how many other people come," Le Senne lamented when asked about the constant population increase in the Balearic Islands due to migration. Furthermore, Le Senne pointed out that the population increase is "a good in itself." For her part, the Prime Minister lamented that the population increase in the islands "is putting a strain on public services" and demanded more resources from the Spanish government.

This Monday, Prohens outlined the main demands she will make to Pedro Sánchez, with whom she will meet tomorrow at the Consulate of the Mar. The head of the Executive will demand joint airport management and also the implementation of a quantified and scheduled railway agreement with Madrid. Prohens will reiterate the government's refusal to accept migrant minors from other autonomous communities, at a time when it is only a matter of weeks before the Spanish government begins distributing the children and young people in the Canary Islands. "This year we have already received twice as many irregular migrants as in the same period last year," said the president, who believes that the government's refusal to accept migrant minors is also based on "the dignity of the minors."

Regarding the financing system, the president reiterated the government's argument: it will not accept that the citizens of the Balearic Islands pay more taxes "to pay dues to the separatists." "An improvement in the financing system is necessary. We've been talking about it for two years and we don't even have a draft," he said, also emphasizing the need to implement "the principle of ordinality" and to take into account "the floating population."

He will also demand state aid for the Mallorca railway and insist on demanding the road agreement.

In addition to Prohens and Le Senne, the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, and the president of the Mallorca Council, Llorenç Galmés, also met with Felipe VI.
