Prohens will sing 'La Balanguera' accompanied by hundreds of students at La Misericòrdia

The event, organized by the Consell de Mallorca and Obra Cultural Balear, is part of the commemoration of the Alcover Year and the centenary of the musical version of the poem

PalmaThe president of the Government, Marga Prohens, will participate this Friday at 12:00 PM in the singing of La Balanguera which will take place at La Misericòrdia in Palma, in an event that will bring together nearly 1,000 students from various educational centers in Mallorca. The event, organized by the Consell de Mallorca and the Obra Cultural Balear (OCB), is part of the commemoration of the Alcover Year and the centenary of the musical version of the poem by Joan Alcover, one of the most emblematic pieces of the literary and musical heritage of the Islands.

In addition to Prohens, the event will be attended by the Minister of Education and Universities, Antoni Vera; the President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés; and the Mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, along with other institutional representatives. The singing will feature the participation of students from educational centers in Palma and Inca, including CEIP Santa Catalina, IES Josep Maria Llompart, Col·legi Sant Vicenç de Paül de la Soledat, CEIPESO Ponent d’Inca, CEIP Miquel Costa i Llobera, CEIP Jafuda Cresques, Col·legi Santa Mònica, Col·legi Santíssima Trinitat, and Col·legi Madre Alberta.

The initiative aims to vindicate the figure of Joan Alcover and value one of the most representative works of Mallorcan cultural heritage within the framework of the Alcover Year activities. In parallel, the OCB has organized a second popular singing of La Balanguera, which will take place at 8:00 PM in Plaça Major in Palma, serving as the central event of the day. The evening will be directed by the Municipal Music Band and will feature a wide representation of island choirs, including Orfeó Ramon Llull, Coral Sons d’Olímpia, Coral Spiritual Mallorca a l’Octava, Cor Acadèmia 1830, Capella Mallorquina, Cap Pela, Coral Sant Jaume de Palma, Coral UIB, and other reference choral groups. With these two events, Palma will become the epicenter this Friday of a day dedicated to choral music and the celebration of one of the most iconic pieces of Mallorcan popular song.
