A resident of the old prison: "The Court has not offered us dignified alternatives, I live surrounded by rats"

PalmaA resident of the old Palma prison has accused the City Council this Thursday of breaking the promises made to the inhabitants and allowing them to continue living "surrounded by rats and garbage". "We were promised something and absolutely nothing has been done," she pointed out during an intervention at this Thursday's municipal plenary session.

The woman assured that far from offering an alternative they could afford, they have only been informed of the deadline to voluntarily leave the premises, but that she cannot leave because she is a sick person and has worked when she could.

For their part, the Platform of Affected by Mortgages and the Housing Crisis (PAH) and social movements have denounced during the plenary session that in Palma an "offensive of coercion and threats by owners and large landlords is being allowed to force evictions" with the complicity of Cort.

Social entities have accused the Palma City Council of acting "by action or omission, as an accomplice", since the municipal company Emaya is "executing water supply cuts at the request of individuals and without any kind of judicial order", which is "illegal" and is done to "exert pressure".

They have also reported "that this violation of human rights is aggravated by the blocking and denial of municipal registration by the City Council".

"Registration is a fundamental right for any person, regardless of their residential situation in the place where they live," they have indicated.
